Chris Buott: Husband, Father, and aspiring Triathlete

When most people envision how they'll spend their Sunday, it typically involves relaxation and a day off from a hectic work week. Few of us want to get out and exercise or go for a swim, bike, or run just for fun. And then there's local man Chris Buott.

Buott, 37, was born and raised in Barrie. On Sunday, August 13, Buott competes in his first-ever triathlon race at the Barrie Waterfront through MultiSport Canada. This three-pronged competition consists of a 750-meter swim, a 20 km bike ride, and a 5 km run. Furthermore, transitions between events are logged with a running timer, requiring skill and finesse to succeed.

With a mentally and physically stressful career as a firefighter and father of two children under 4, Buott uses physical challenges like triathlons to destress and clear the mind. Moreover, Buott likes to put his body and mind to the test regularly to gauge his capabilities.

While it may be Buott's first triathlon, the former Canadian Military Fitness Trainer and local fitness professional - who runs fitness classes and personal training through Pursuit Fitness in Barrie - always relishes athletic competition. In addition to growing up playing hockey and soccer, Buott developed a passion for fitness and wellness while studying Human Kinetics at Laurentian University. Buott continued his athletics by playing for the men's varsity soccer club.

After university, Buott's attention shifted to becoming a Physical Education Teacher. This desire would ultimately lead him to Australia to pursue his goal and attain a Master's degree in Education. Although successful in his profession, Buott yearned for something that would put his athletic background to better use. This desire culminated in a move to Bradford, where in 2015, Buott became a volunteer firefighter. Additionally, Buott would expand his volunteer work into a full-time role as a firefighter, which he still does today.

Above all else, Buott is a family man. His competitive spirit may still burn bright, but his wife and two children are Buott's top priority. This balance of family and career seemingly brings out the best in Buott, who eagerly awaits his triathlon debut.

But make no mistake, Buott is well prepared despite his jam-packed schedule. In addition to running, biking, and in-pool training sessions, Buott equally emphasizes the importance of proper nutrition and sleep. Likewise, Buott understands the value of local support from his friends and community.

That is why HeadQuarters and The Wired Owl family are proud to sponsor Chris Buott's latest endeavour. We wish Chris and all upcoming participants good luck in their events. For more information on the triathlon or how to get involved, visit MultiSport Canada's website.
